4 Appetizers that Pair Perfectly with Wine and Football
Growing up on the prairies there are a few things we are known for, such as the land of the living skies, endless crops, prairie lily, and we can't forget about football. Riderville is real and very much woven into our DNA. From the beginning of June until the end of November, you'll see people wearing Roughrider jerseys and waving their Roughrider flags everywhere. Whether you are an actual CFL fan, anyone calling Saskatchewan home tends to jump on the bandwagon for the 21 week season!
If you enjoy watching football with a group of friends it is always nice to serve game time appetizers. For all you Winenos we have four great appetizer recommendations that pair perfectly with wine, and of course football. I mean I am sure they will go great with beer too!
1) Charcuterie Board
This is a given! Making the perfect charcuterie board for any event or gathering is always a hit, especially when serving wine. Selecting the right meat, cheese, spreads and bread can be tricky but start with your preferred types of wine and then begin selecting the rest. For example, if you love a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon you may want to serve aged cheddar with cured salami and pepperoni.

2) Popcorn With Sesame Glazed Pistachios
Food and Wine's easy to make and easy serve recipe, makes this a great addition to any football party. You can also use one hand to pop the popcorn into your mouth, while still holding that glass of wine. This sweet and salty snack goes nicely with a chilled glass of Riesling.

3) Shrimp Scampi Dip
We love our seafood and this warm dip goes great with a lighter-bodied white wine such as a Pinot Grigio. And it is nice to serve a hot dish on those cold fall days! Damn Delicious's baked shrimp scampi dip is done to creamy and cheesy perfection. If you are a red wine lover you can certainly try pairing this crowd-pleaser with a Pinot Noir. Get recipe here.
