Most people haven't heard of Barbera the red Italian wine grape variety that is predominately grown in the valleys of Northern Italy. As one of the most-planted red grape varieties in Italy, it doesn't get much play. Wines such as Sangiovese and Montepulciano are far more commonly known.
Barbera is recognized for its intensity in colour and good structure of tannin and acid, can be enjoyed chilled when young, which makes this wine highly enjoyable on a hot summer day! With a vibrant and fruity personality, the hints of plum and black cherry are tasty on palate. It is also easily paired with a variety of different foods making this wine a perfect addition to any dinner table or backyard party.
With all this talk about food and wine it has us craving our favourite food pairing that goes perfectly with our Barbera wine - BBQ Steak and Sauteed Mushrooms!
