Mulled Wine

December 15, 2016

'Tis the season! It is that time of year again where we get to wear our ugly Christmas sweaters and sip mulled wine. This popular European drink is something we enjoy drinking over the holidays, especially after a day of braving the cold.

While mulled wine is served at Christmas markets, restaurants and in family homes in England, Spain and Austria, it isn't something that is regularly found in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Served warm or hot, this recipe is a tasty treat you'll want to serve your family and friends during the holidays. This year we can't wait try it using our custom made wine and Port.  The best part is, it is super easy to make and we have the perfect recipe for you!

- 750 ml of dry red wine

- 1/3 cup sugar

- 1/2 cup water

- 1 orange

Spice Bag:

- 4 whole cloves

- 2 cinnamon sticks

- 2 star of anise

Combine 1/3 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in a large pot on medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add 750 ml of red wine, orange slices and 1 spice bag. Reduce heat to low and heat until wine is hot. Remove spice bag and discard. Serve hot.

The prep and cook time is roughly 20 minutes.

Stay warm with this holiday favourite!
