3 Red Wines for a Rainy Day

July 12, 2016

What to do on a rainy day? Make wine of course!

Rainy days tend to make us want to curl up under a blanket and watch Netflix. Why not do that with the perfect wine. On these cold and rainy days I typically crave a full-bodied red wine that warms me up from the inside out!

Three of our favourite full-bodied red wines for those rainy and cold days are:

1. Cabernet Sauvignon

Intense red colour with purplish hues, this California favourite has the delicate perfume of cherries and soft spice. A supple wine with mouth 'smacking' appeal and simple complexity. Its full body and solid tannins deliver a fresh spicy wine with mass appeal.

2.  Amarone

An irresistible wine whose elegance draws you subliminally into its orbit. Intense ruby-garnet colour, it is redolent of a profusion of aromas of coffee, cherries and sun dried fruits. Its high alcohol makes it full and generous in the mouth and it overwhelms the palate with intense flavours, prolonging your pleasure with its characteristic slightly bitter finish.

3.  Italian Super Tuscan

Subtle hints of vanilla with robust fruit flavour and heavy untoasted oak chip character add intense tannins to the palate. This wine offers traces of old world that are big on flavour. Build with a strong back bone of acidity, this wine is better served with food. Although this wine is better on the dinner table served with food rather than sipping alone, it is perfect to serve at dinner on cold and rainy days!

Cheers,
